RESERVATIONS:To avoid disappointment in obtaining accommodation, it is suggested that reservations of seats/berths be made as far in advance as possible. Please turn up at the station at least 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the train or else the reserved accommodation may be released to other passengers. Passengers holding waitlisted tickets should not board reserved coaches without permission from the authorized staff; otherwise, they may be detained and fined. In Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express trains, which are fully reserved trains, such passengers will be excess charged.

LOST TICKETS:Indian Railways, in case of lost or misplaced or torn tickets entertain no claim for refund. However, if you have lost a reserved ticket the Railway may, at its discretion, permit you to travel on the same reservation on payment of the additional charges as per the Railway rules.

BAGGAGE:Indian Railways allows you to carry, free of charge the following quantity of luggage from the starting station when you buy an adult ticket and half of this quantity on a child ticket.

Should you feel that your luggage is likely to exceed this limit, please have it weighed in advance at the station. Indian Railways requests passengers to carry only minimum luggage along with them in the compartments to make the journey comfortable for themselves as also for fellow passengers. The rest may be booked in Luggage Vans attached to every train, so that your luggage reaches the destination along with you.

RAILWAY FOOD:Important trains on Indian Railway have Pantry Car facilities for looking after the catering requirements of passengers. Besides arrangements for service of food and beverages from the station en-route are also undertaken on trains without pantry cars. Rajdhani and Shatabdi trainís tickets are included with breakfast, snacks and food. Indian Railway food quality still needs to be up to the mark. However improvements are underway with introduction of private catering service providers in some of the trains. For long distance travelling including overnight journey, please carry some dry snacks at the place where you are boarding the train. In India it is a practice to carry small Tiffin with home food for long distance travel and boiled water in case of children.

MEDICAL AID:In case medical aid is required due to sudden injury or illness, please contact the Guard, Conductor or Coach Attendant. The Railway Staff will try to arrange First Aid or for a doctor to attend and supply medicines at prescribed charges. To ensure that train is not detained for the purpose, causing inconvenience to other passengers, it may be necessary for the patient to discontinue his journey by the train to receive proper medical aid. Arrangements have also been made for sending advance message for a doctor on en-route station.

THEFT OF LUGGAGE:Passengers are informed that in case of theft of their luggage and other belongings, robbery or dacoity in running trains, forms for lodging report with police are available with train Conductors, Coach Attendants, Guards and G.R.P. Escorts. After properly filling the form it may be handed over, under acknowledgement, to one of the officials mentioned above for registration of the report at the next Police Station. Passengers are not required to break their journey for lodging the report with the police.

LEFT LUGGAGE:Most stations have a left luggage facility called a Cloak Room where excess luggage can be kept duly packed and locked on an hourly basis at nominal charges. This is a useful facility if you are a transit passenger for a particular station and catching the train after 5-6 hours for your next destination.
