Practised at St. Vincent's Hospital ,Sydney ( advanced training in CABG, complex CABG, redo CABG, homografts, valve repairs, heart, lung and heart-lung transplants, aneurysm surgery and vascular surgery) and at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children ( advanced training in repair of complex congenital heart disease).

Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi from its inception for 8 years. Independently performed over 2000 open heart surgeries with results matching International standards. Lead a team of doctors for heart, lung and heart-lung transplant training at the St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney in 1994.

Over 50 national and international publications and papers - these include papers on heart surgery which are acknowledged as world firsts and original paper on BiDirectional Glenn Shunt presented at World Congress on Paediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in Paris which is quoted in all major articles on the Single Ventricle . Reviewer for international journals including the Annals of Thoracic Surgery (USA) . Member of Australian Association of CardioThoracic Surgeons, Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) USA, Indian Association of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons, Cardiological Society of India, New York Academy of Sciences and Indian Medical Association. Author of chapter in book - ‘Myocardial Protection’ published in Jan 2004 by Blackwell Publishing , New York - the only author from India.

Started the first open heart surgery programme in the private sector in Punjab in Nov 1995 . Over 6000 open heart surgeries (CABG, valve repair and replacement, repair of congenital heart defects - blue babies- , vascular surgery, aneurysm repairs and Bentalls operation ) performed with results matching international standards. A number of innovations and world first surgeries (acknowledged by the medical world and published in the Limca Book of World Records 2000) performed - total arterial multivessel bypass surgery on beating heart and use of the radial artery in femoro-popliteal bypass. Completed 5 years as the Chief Cardiac Surgeon & Chairman Cardiac Surgery at the Tagore Heart Care & Research Centre, Jalandhar, Punjab. Started the cardiac surgical programme at the Fortis Heart Institute in Mohali, Punjab where he was the Seniormost Consultant Cardiac Surgeon from March 2001 to Sep 2002. Performed 350 open heart procedures there. Chairman CTVS of Metro Heart Institutes in Noida, Delhi, Faridabad & Meerut.

Initiated an active community outreach programme in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh in which various free camps to even remote areas are organised (45 so far) where free consultation and medicines are given. Delivered innumerable talks and newspaper and TV interviews on the preventive aspects of heart disease to lay public, Social Organisations and Doctors. Received Punjab Govt Civil Award - Parman Patra 2001 - at Independence Day function on 15 Aug 2001 in recognition of his contributions to cardiac surgery and for bringing international level cardiac surgical care to the people of Punjab.
