Nita Mehta's multi-cuisine restaurant Kelong is going to open in Sarabha Nagar Ludhiana

Celebrated cook, award-winning cook-book author and owner of the largest publishers of cookbooks in India, Nita Mehta has made a foray into the restaurant business as she will open her first-ever restaurant in the country in Ludhiana this month. Kelong, the multi-cuisine restaurant at Sarabha Nagar will serve Indian, Chinese and Italian delicacies.

The restaurant, which will be operational by the end of this month, houses a lounge and a bar. The place will also double up as a cooking academy for two hours in the morning with a section devoted to it. Notably, Nita is currently running as many as 10 cooking academies in Delhi and the NCR and has sold a record 6 million cookery books so far.

The Ludhiana restaurant is the first of the three that Nita Mehta plans to open by the end of next year. "I plan to open a chain of restaurants and cooking academies all over the country," she shares. "We chose Ludhiana for our debut as it is a land of foodies. Also, Punjab is close to my heart as I am a Punjabi," she said. Next in the line of launch is her restaurant in Chandigarh in March next year, followed by Bangalore.

Nita's son Anirudh, who joined the business a decade ago, shared that the restaurant is a co-venture of Nita Mehta Foods and one of Nita's Jalandhar-based student, Ripendeep Kaur. Six beauty pageant winners from across the globe namely Denise Garrido Conceicao, Ms World Canada; Boanca Diana Irina, Ms. Bikini World; Emma Brit Waldron, Ms. World Ireland; Fannez Ingvarsdottir, Ms. World Iceland; Claudia Arce Lemaitre, Ms. Universe Bolivia; and Marika Savaek, Ms Universe Slovania were present in the restaurant to grace the occasion.
