LIT passed a resolution to transfer 2.10 acres land to the cultural affairs department of the state for the Ishmeet Sangeet Academy

  

The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) passed a resolution to transfer 2.10 acres to the cultural affairs department of the state for the Ishmeet Sangeet Academy.  The meeting was held under the chairmanship of LIT chairman Ashok Juneja. The land is located in Raj Guru nagar locality of the city.

The managing committee of the Ishmeet Sangeet Academy includes Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana (chairman), LIT chairman, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and Director, Cultural Affairs, Punjab. Besides, Dr Charanpal Singh will be the life member. The department of cultural affairs, Punjab, will give another two names as members.

In November last, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had announced that his government was committed to establishing a music academy in the memory of singing sensation Ishmeet Singh, who died mysteriously in Maldives in 2008. The Chief Minister had direct- ed the LIT to immediately transfer land to the department of cultural affairs, Punjab, for the Ishmeet Sangeet Academy here.
The state government had earmarked Rs 20 crore for the academy.

Ishmeet, winner of the Voice of India singing contest on a TV entertainment channel in November 2007, had mysteriously died after drowning in the swimming pool of a resort in Maldives in July, 2008. Hailing from this industrial city, the 19-year-old Ishmeet had gone for an event in Maldives.
