Satluj Hospital, Doraha
Tradition and medicine, the two could be quite contradictory! While the former has everything to do with the sentiments, the latter is related to all things scientific. Yet for the past 36 years, Sidhu Hospital at Doraha has been successfully bringing the two together. Humble beginnings notwithstanding, today the hospital whose foundation stone laid in 1972, is a 150 bedded, multi specialty and much sought address this side of New Delhi.
Founder Dr. Harbans Singh Sidhu, a Civil Surgeon and recipient of the Presidential award for selfless service that rendered at CoCo Isalands, where no doctor was willing to go, returned home in 1960 & joined the Punjab Civil & Medical Services (PCMS). He was posted at Payal where undaunted by the lack of medical facilities in rural Punjab at that time, he carried on relentlessly working for more than 20 hours a day during his five-year tenure there. In 1965, he established his own clinic at Doraha, while the foundation stone of the Sidhu Hospital was laid in 1972. It was upgraded in 1983 and became multi-specialty, 150 bedded hospital.
