Fountain Chowk, Ludhiana Recreational Landmark, Entertainment Spot (Punjab)
The famous Fountain Chowk is one of the landmarks of the city, but now the fountain seems to have run dry. The roundabout had got its name from the fountain that used to be on in the evenings and on many occasions the day too. But for those new to the city, the Fountain Chowk has a fountain in name only. Though, the pipes of the fountain still exist, but there is hardly an occasion when the fountain is on.
Popularly known as 'fowara' (meaning fountain), Fountain Chowk is centrally located just opposite Extension Library on the edge of the five roads leading to Jagraon Bridge, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Aarti Chowk, Prince Hostel & Kailash Chowk respectively. This Fountain Chowk is very near to the Guru Nanak Stadium, Mall Road, Ghumar Mandi and Old Courts. The Fountain Chowk Market with total no. of 18 eatery shops was set up in 1977 by Muncipal Corporation Ludhiana. This Fountain Chowk market is a hot spot for the people in Ludhiana. It is from here that Ludhianvis developed the habit of eating out.
