Aradhna Ladies Club, Ludhiana
Since every morning Mrs. Anta Sachdev finds ample of spare time after her husband leaves for office and the children for college, she has decided to spend that time in clubbing.
According to Mrs. Anita Sachdev "In Ludhiana, there are less working women than other places. It is a business city, and women usually stay at home. That is why there are Clubs. What can one do at home? Watch TV or read a magazine, but for how long? If women go out, they are explored to outside influences and gain confidence,"
Playing 'Tam bola' is the most pleasant diversion for the women here, when during the afternoon, Anita's drawing room host kitty parties. Called 'Aradhana Ladies Club', Anita started it in 2001 with some 15 members. Today the club boasts of 175 members, all of them housewives and belonging to the age group 30 to 50 years.
Singing folk songs is living close to the Punjabi tradition here. Though one can hear such songs during traditional Punjabi marriages or any family function, some members of the club do sing them regularly to acquaint the You may have heard such songs during Punjabi marriage or a family function, but some senior members of the club, entertain the youngsters to acquaint them with their roots.
